When last I wrote, my furniture had not yet arrived. I am happy to report that things in E's abode have vastly improved. I have a bed, chairs and satellite television. I have the Twins on TV every night and greatly enjoyed Cleveland's broadcasters over the weekend. No, I'm not being sarcastic about Cleveland's announcing crew - they're fantastic.

My dad managed to sprain his ankle in my backyard and extended his stay for an extra week to give it some time to heal. His timing with the injury is somewhat suspect in that he did it after the furniture had been delivered and the satellite complete with unlimited baseball was hooked up. It looked at lunch today like he'd have the new doors up on all of the bedrooms so that's a plus. Doors are good.

Yesterday, I painted the entrance walls. At this point, I hate painting. Even more than painting though, I despise doing it while standing many, many feet in the air on top of an extension ladder with nothing to hold onto and nothing to keep me from dying should the ladder or I fall. It needs a second coat. I'm thinking maybe it doesn't need one that badly.

A Bed! A Bed! My Kingdom for a Bed!

This weekend the Mormons celebrated their arrival in the Salt Lake Valley. How exciting. On the positive side, they did have an excellent barbeque on Saturday. The town also has a ranch rodeo featuring everyone's favorite events - ladies goat milking and wild cow milking. It's worth the price of admission just to see those. Sadly, no wild horse race. The enterprising bovine who escaped under the pen during the cutting event was also amusing. Lots of cowboys and no one has a rope?

I have been informed that a truck containing things like a bed and a chair is currently parked in my driveway. Sadly, the people who are set to remove these things have not arrived. Damn Utah. Nothing good ever comes of anything involving that miserable place.

Random Baseball Trivia

According to researchers Christopher Zorn and Jeff Gill, baseball fans are far more likely to embrace the designated hitter (DH) if they are Democrats:

"Most important, and consistent with our expectations, we find that self-identified Democratic Party members are more likely to support the DH rule than are either independents or Republicans; the odds ratio of 1.90 suggests that, on average, Democrats are 90 percent more likely to support the rule than are independents. This implies (we think) that the values that draw the respondents to the Democrats are linked to those associated with supporting the rule. At the same time, the reverse is not true: Republicans are no more or less likely to support the DH rule than are political independents.
Their explanation for this finding makes intuitive sense."

As Zorn and Gill explain, the DH is arguably the greatest rules change in the history of baseball -- and Democrats are more accepting of "socio-political" changes.

I have to go home and paint some more. Big surprise. On a positive note, all flooring will be completed by the end of the week except those in the bathrooms. I may be able to tile one of the bathrooms this weekend. We'll see.

In other news, it turns out I can blog from my phone. Who knew? If you want to see random pictures of the chaos in my house you can see them here. I used this site to get photos to my decorators who have been busily setting up the colors I should use. Hopefully, we'll finish with everything tonight. Except for the entry and the bathrooms and the kitchen...

ETA: Sorry the pictures kind of suck. I don't want to spend the time rotating them before blogging via phone. Also, the last picture is of a semi-finished product and looks much, much better in person than is reflected in that picture. Stupid camera phones.

I need a blanket

I woke up at 5 this morning totally freezing. Did I get up and grab a sweatshirt to try and get warm? No. I froze until my alarm clock went off three hours later. I'm giving serious thought to starting a small fire in the wood stove.

In a Booksfree.com update, I started a race to see whether the post office in Lyman or the one in Mountain View was faster (the towns are rivals so I thought I might as well create a post office rivalry). I was expecting a week before my results would come in. You know which one was faster? The one I mailed on Friday afternoon - two days after I mailed the two packages involved in the race. The US Postal Service confuses me. But yay for a three day turn around. I might even have new books by Saturday.

It's All Fun and Games Until You Actually Have to Work

I got my electric bill today. I owe a grand total of $6.83. If I were living in Chaska, my bill would have been substantially higher owing to the use of air conditioning. I was a bit worried to be buying a place out here without A/C but it turns out what I really need is heat. I freeze all night long. 90 degrees during the day does nothing to heat up the house much.

Also, I have a new tester phone. I really dislike Sony Ericsson phones because I think the keys are backwards, but this one has the Sims on it. It's pathetic to get addicted to a cell phone game. But there I am playing it all day long. Stupid games.

Can't It Just Rain Already?

I have nothing to say. I just thought I should post something. Yesterday for the Fourth, I painted. Then I went into town for a free picnic. I like cities that offer free food on holidays. As you can tell, my day was super exciting.

It might rain today. That would be excellent. My grandmother was all in a panic because of the big fire south of here. I told her it couldn't get over the mountains. Is it wrong to lie?
