Hardy!

He's back, not injured and he hit a homerun. Yay Hardy! I've missed you.

Peas

I have pea plants! Sorry to keep on about the garden, but I have zero patience waiting for things to grow and when I see the little sprouts I get very excited.

It's also Friday. What's even better is that next week is a short week. And then the week after will be short since I'm going to the Tetons. And the week after that will be short since I'll be heading to the Wind Rivers. Mountains are pretty and they're prettier when someone else is paying for me to see them (even if a bit of working on weekends is involved to enjoy them).

Twins and Late Inning Scoring

I don't know what it is about me this year. Every time I turn the Twins game off when they are sucking and/or losing big, they inevitably come back to win. Take last night for example. I was rather annoyed because they kept sucking offensively. And then the bullpen joined in. I turned the game off in the bottom of the eighth. 20 minutes and I would have seen the wondrous homerun derby. Oh no. I took Gracie out and went to read a book.

I'm happy that they won, but can they only win when I'm not watching?

Olympic Trials

This weekend I was watching the Olympic Trials on NBC. One of the things that amazes me is the total concentration and dedication of young teenagers. On the other side though, it kind of bothers me that these kids live and breathe their sport. If they miss the Olympics this time, they're pretty much screwed because they have very little chance of making the next Olympics.

I always wonder what this does to a person. You've spent your entire life working for one thing and then suddenly you're 20 years old and you're done. Then what? I had a friend who was an aspiring Olympic figure skater. She left her parents' home in Wisconsin and moved in with an aunt and uncle to train in Minneapolis. She practiced seven hours a day, seven days a week. 2 hours before school and then left early every day for another five. She could rarely go out and just have fun. She was injured all the time. What kind of life is that for a 13 year old?

She never made it to the top. She's a figure skating coach in Duluth now. When it all ended do you think she ever wondered if it was worth it? Or what it would have been like to just be a kid?

Things Are Growing

Seeds have sprouted and pushed their way up through the ground. I think they're cucumber plants but can't remember what was planted where. I'm just happy that something's growing. I only water it three times a day - sometimes four.

In other news, I was told I can go to any or all of the events I'm planning for each of our stores. All of my events are Fridays or Saturdays so I can take a weekend trip if I want. Granted I have to work but mileage, food and lodging are mostly paid. First event? Jackson Hole. I actually have to go to that one, but a weekend stay in Yellowstone and the Tetons is definitely in my plans. Other exciting potential destinations include Saratoga (in the heart of the uncrowded Snowy Mountains) and Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Gracie is not so excited about the prospect of going to the kennel every weekend.

Yay Celtics!

KG finally has a championship and to top it all off, Kobe got his ass kicked.

In other news, I added peas to my garden today. I'm expecting them to grow.

Glorious

I put my garden in today. I love how everything says to plant after all danger of frost is past. Ummm...It was below freezing three times this week. I just can't wait any longer or I'll never actually get vegetables from the garden and I want green beans damn it. Less needful of cucumbers, but they could be fun. Oh and I put in carrots and pumpkins too. I'm not very hopeful about either actually growing.

On a positive note, my tomato plant seems to be doing quite well. It's in a pot and I've been keeping it in when its cold out. I'm hoping for some untainted tomatoes by the end of the summer.

I had rum tonight. I think I need some more.

What Happened to Spring?

Today we managed to hit 70. It was divine considering I sat at home all weekend with the heat on and shivering on my couch. Then I went to Evanston to get my new tires. It was snowing. Lots and lots of snow was falling. It is June 9. I am done with snow. Mother Nature must be stopped.

Thank You

Dear Highway Patrol,

I'd like to apologize for my previous post. Clearly, you are awesome individuals whom I should appreciate more. I debated whether to retract my previous post, but decided I'm still bitter about the whole warning thing. Still, to the officer who very nicely changed my tire because my roadside assistance doesn't understand the 24 hour part of their service and it was pitch black and I was in the middle of nowhere, I say you are not paid enough. Thank you.

Sincerely,

E

Dear Hormel,

It's always been a dream of mine to be in a lucky seat. I'd like to thank you for giving me that opportunity.

Great for lunch, great for dinner
