Nothing

This weekend I went nowhere. I parked my car in the garage on Friday night and didn't move it again until Monday morning. At one point I was going to go to Burger King, but I waited so long that the blizzard showed up just in time to stop me from going.

This weekend, however, I am going to Denver. My plans involve a ridiculously early wake up call so Gracie can go to the kennel before the kennel lady goes to church, a lunch run at Qdoba in Laramie/Cheyenne and lots of time spent trying to find overnight parking in downtown Denver. Company car though, so if anything happens to it...not my problem.

I am saddened somewhat by the company car because this means I cannot stock up with several cases of imported alcohol from the liquor store I have scoped out in Denver. Apparently, it's the largest liquor store in Colorado and they have lots of stuff that's impossible to find here or in the alcohol-free zone known as Utah.

Over the Fence

Today, Gracie discovered the joys of super deep snow and how it allows her to go into my neighbors yard. You know when a two year old knows they're not supposed to do something but give you the look saying ha, ha watch me? She totally gave me that look. Then she pranced over the fence. So I dashed through thigh deep snow into my neighbors yard to retrieve the dog. Thankfully, she didn't think we were playing so it was really easy to catch her. However, I was totally soaked when I went back to work.

That dog is in so much trouble. It's leashes for the rest of the winter.

Long Weekends

They are indeed nice. Thank you dead presidents for providing me with a random day off. This weekend I played Playstation and cleaned. I reorganized all of my closets, swept and mopped the floor, vacuumed and did my taxes. It seems the Feds have been very grabby with my money this year - Dawn just might get a wedding present yet. Or I might get a nice two week vacation to Greece. I also chased Gracie for 45 minutes this morning in my pajamas in knee deep snow with no socks on. I was not amused.

I finally got her inside and went back to sleep when my mother calls to tell me her computer is broken. Too bad. Go away. I also drove to town to get the ink tag removed from some pants. Penney's has a lot to answer for when I have to drive 130 miles to get that removed. Of course, I combined it with stops at Kmart, the liquor store and Albertson's but I'm still a little miffed about the damn tag not being removed. What if I'd needed those pants for something right away? They suck.

Happy Valentine's Day

Sadly, those expecting roses to be delivered to their significant others were doomed to disappointment as the florist called everyone this morning with the news that the flower truck could not make it to the Valley. Oh yes, the freeway is closed. Again.

As a result of last night's snow and the endlessly blowing winds, Gracie is no longer allowed outside without supervision. Here's a picture of my fence.

Guess What?

It's snowing, blowing like crazy, white out conditions and slippery as hell but the freeway she is not closed! Utah on the other hand is completely closed down. Kids are still stuck on buses trying to get home from school (it's now 10 PM).

But who cares? Because my freeway is open. Ha!

In other fantastic news, the good Mormon folk in Layton had Spencer Gifts raided for selling "sexual items". Is it illegal to sell these? No. But apparently they might damage the fragile psyches of people who are too uptight to live.

Where Have All the Chickens Gone?

Saturday I went into town in the vain hope that some mail had arrived - namely the books that should have been here on Thursday. Sadly, the post office was deserted and no mail was in my box. So I headed over to the grocery store to pick up some stuff for dinner. The shelves were quite bare. A sign on the empty chicken cooler read: "Due to bad weather and road closures we will not have any chicken until Monday."

Ah, yes. Life in the big city.

Story of My Life

And the mail? Still not getting here.

Here's a Question for You

If you close the freeway and close the road at the final exit before the freeway closure, where do you expect those people to go? Clearly someone needs to think.
That said, the people on the road are total idiots because holy hell is it bad out there.

To Wed or Not to Wed?

The other day I was discussing why I don't want a wedding with some coworkers (And no this has nothing to do with my prospects on marriage in the near future). One of them protested that you don't get any gifts if you don't have a wedding. I've purchased enough gifts from registries to know that I want nothing to do with them. What the hell would I do with more dishes, silverware, towels, etc. than I already have? I don't need a new pizza cutter or soup ladle. Some new stuff is nice but really, everything I have is more than adequate. Add a future spouse's stuff and the house is overflowing. So what do you do? Can you ask for money to remodel the bathroom? Probably not. The presents argument just does not work for me.

I say, viva Las Vegas! Skip the wedding, throw a party a few months after the elopement and enjoy the satisfaction of not spending six months arguing with your mother about how to organize your wedding.

(This post is reflective of my feelings towards a hypothetical marriage for E and does not mean I don't wish others well on their own weddings.)

I've Decided

Endless snow with gale force winds is much worse than sub-zero cold. Largely because snow closes the freeway for a week and a half and the mail isn't getting here.
