Putting the Sin Back in the Family

Random thoughts today...

Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow, nor dark of night can stop the post from coming, my ass. Where the hell are my books you bastards? The freeway being closed doesn't
keep my out of Valley coworkers from getting here. Where the hell are you?

Yesterday, I went to Pizza Hut for a fundraiser for a 10 month old baby with cancer. As I was putting the box with the leftovers in the fridge, I noticed the name on it - Olsin. I like it. I think I'll go with that from now on.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't know what's worse - endless days of subzero weather or endless snow storms with gale force winds.

My $250 gift certificate from Barnes and Noble is on its way here. I was going for a Wii but since it seems to only be selling as a bundle with crap I don't want, I think I might go for a PS2 with lots and lots of games.

Sex Toys R Us

This weekend I was invited to a Passion Party. As I clearly had nothing better to do and my mother is constantly telling me I need to be social, I headed out to peruse vibrators and edible lotions with a bunch of strangers. The sales part was interesting and I learned more about some of the coworkers sex lives than I ever really needed to know.

After pretty much everybody left, I stayed around to help empty J's liquor cabinet. I'm all about the alcohol. We sat around getting drunk for hours. While the remaining people kept getting angry phone calls and texts from their husbands/boyfriends, I simply remarked that Gracie does not know how to use the phone and reveled in my single status. All in all the weekend simply reminded me that I need to get drunk more often.

Vacation Planning

So I have been investigating the cost of several trips I'd like to take in the near future. To fly to Minneapolis non-stop (layovers add a minimum of 6 hours to the flight) it costs roughly $430. To make the same flight to New York's JFK it's $320. Now explain to me how flying an additional 1500 miles each way costs $100 less.

On a positive note, renting a car is super cheap. So cheap in fact that my planned trip to see the Twins this May is going to involve me renting a car because it will actually be cheaper than driving my own. I think my truck will be pleased.

Slip Sliding Away

Yesterday, I headed out because I knew that there was no way we could get through three weekends without some major weather issue keeping me stuck here. I had planned to go to Park City and learn how to tile my bathroom but quickly changed my mind when I realized Sundance was going on. Much as I'd love to meet Paris Hilton, I decided to give Park City a pass.

Instead, I ended up in the stoplight hell that is Ogden. What a miserable, miserable place. That said, they have a Target. Said Target has the taco sauce I like that I can't find anywhere else. It's totally worth the two hour drive on winding mountain roads for the taco sauce.

As I was driving into town, I saw a bunch of people sliding down the mountain at a rest stop. I thought of those of you not sliding because of the cold, and almost stopped for one trip down the mountain. It was the perfect day for it and you don't have hills that tall in Minnesota.

Gracie Goes to the Vet

We made a quick trip today to get blood drawn to make sure her meds aren't killing her liver (tests came back normal) and have the charming glands in her butt expressed. It always amuses me that she sprays her butt with air freshener when she's done.

Gracie has really bad timing when it comes to visiting the doctor. When we arrived, it was a bit windy but otherwise okay. Ten minutes later when we left the wind was howling like I've only ever heard in the movies and it was absolute white out. I couldn't even see the blizzard posts. Not the best feeling in the world. Thankfully, we made it to my house and I made it back to work without dying.

A Glorious Day

While the rest of the state was no doubt loading up their snowmobiles for an intense day of snowmachining, I hopped in my truck and drove on the very dry (and open!) freeway for some much needed time away from my house. For the first time in a month bad weather did not make it suicidal to travel over the weekend. As yesterday I was hungry for the first time in three weeks, I even visited a grocery store. I returned home to find that my neighbors had plowed out the three foot snow drift in my driveway. It was a grand day.

Tomorrow, I'm going to use my Christmas present to install yet another set of blinds for Gracie to destroy.

Mission: Taco Bell

I have been craving a taco for over a week now. Sadly, illness and weather have thwarted all attempts to get one. Yesterday, the only decent day to go get one, I was sick as a dog and didn't move from the bed or couch all day. Today, I decided that a taco would heal me. I made up my mind to get one tonight.

Damn bastards closed the road to Taco Bell. I could get back home from there, but not to it. "Go to Taco Time," people said. "No. Yo quiero Taco Bell," I replied.

Around 4 I sent out my scout to assess whether the road was indeed closed or uf it was just posted that way for fun. My scout returned with an affirmative on the posted closed for fun. Taco Bell was on.

I entered the freeway and joined in the chain of semis that stretched for miles going 10 miles an hour. Thankfully, I finally managed to pass the tank and sped up to 45. Why they would be hauling a tank in these conditions I don't know - it'll never make it up the Sisters.

My mission was successful. I got my taco and do indeed feel much better having eaten it. Also, I put 15 whole miles on my truck. That's more than I've driven in the past week.

It's Getting Hot in Here

Due to my recent illness and the cold weather outside, I turned the heat up from its usual 55 to 62. I can't handle it. It's too hot to sleep and I toss and turn. Last night or rather this morning I finally fell asleep around 8. And that was only after chasing 2 Sudafed Nighttime Cold with Bailey's. So what's worse turning the heat down and possibly having a pipe burst outside or being unable to sleep for the remainder of the winter?

We've Been Upgraded

What started out as a Winter Storm Watch has now become a warning. Basically, we'll get a crappy snowfall amount (say 6-10 inches) but the wind will blow like mad and the freeway will close for the third weekend in the last four. I'm thwarted again in my quest to shop.

On a positive note, they're breaking ground for a Pamida here in the Valley in April. Then it won't be a 40 mile drive through the mountains and around a million freaking semis to get some damn toothpaste.

Amused

Yesterday, we were lunching at Pizza Hut eating pizza of course and the song that came on as background music was Afternoon Delight. I laughed.
