The Problem with Hiking

So yesterday I thought I'd take a nice quiet hike into the Tetons. It was a typically beautiful summer day in the mountains - cloudless, cool and slightly breezy. I started off here at Leigh Lake.

I then headed up towards and across String Lake and began the climb into the mountains. 3 miles later and I ran into the first major runoff stream. The non-existent spring means that the runoff is still massive into mid-July.

2 miles further on and I finally started to get above the tree line and into this alpine meadow where I had a lunch break of two apples and a bottle of water.

I promised myself I would turn around at 1:30 or when I crossed snow on the path whichever came first. At 1:28, I hit the first big patch of snow, threw a snowball, took a picture of the snow and turned around.
